Records on Main: A New Kind of Record Store in Downtown Littleton

Tucked into the heart of downtown Littleton, Records on Main is more than a place to buy records. Since opening in April 2025, the shop has been building a reputation as a warm, unpretentious gathering place for longtime collectors, curious newcomers, and anyone who simply enjoys spending an hour flipping through records.

The story behind the store starts with a career spent building and marketing other people’s brands. Eventually, the idea emerged to create something that was actually their own – something rooted in a neighborhood rather than driven by a growth chart.

Downtown Littleton felt like the natural fit. With its walkable Main Street, local businesses, and community atmosphere, it offered the kind of environment where a record store could become part of the neighborhood rather than simply another retail destination.

A Record Store Without the Usual Rules

One of the first things you’ll notice about Records on Main is that the records aren’t divided into the traditional genre sections you might expect.

Instead, the shop uses a fully alphabetical A-to-Z system.

That may sound like a small detail, but it changes the experience of digging. You’re not necessarily walking into the store thinking, “I’m looking for rock” or “I’m looking for jazz.” Instead, artists and albums from completely different musical worlds can end up side by side.

And that’s the point. You never quite know what you’re going to stumble across.

The store carries vinyl, CDs, and some cassettes, with a mix of new and used inventory. Most of the new stock comes through a wholesale partner, while used records come from the local community through collections, trade-ins, and estate finds.

That combination keeps the inventory moving…and means the next visit can look very different from the last.

More Than Just Vinyl

The personality of Records on Main is perhaps best summed up as warm, unpretentious, and a little scrappy.

It’s a place where you can dig for an hour, but you don’t have to be on a mission to buy something. You can hang out, talk music, discover something unexpected, or simply take your time. That atmosphere is intentional.

The store has also become a community space, hosting listening parties, live performances, music-related events, and other gatherings. Those events give people another reason to walk through the door and help make the shop part of Littleton’s local music culture.

What’s Selling?

There are plenty of familiar records that move exactly as you’d expect. Albums such as Rumours, Dark Side of the Moon, Jeff Buckley’s Grace, and Taylor Swift releases continue to find buyers.

But one of the more interesting surprises has been the popularity of emo and Midwest emo.

Records by Paramore and My Chemical Romance can be difficult to keep in stock, while the broader Midwest emo scene has developed a strong following among customers.

It’s a good reminder that today’s record-buying audience isn’t necessarily the same audience that drove the vinyl market decades ago. Younger listeners are bringing their own musical histories and interests into the format.
